Southern Schools Book Award 2006 Presentation Evening

presentation_eve_06_1The winner of the 2006 Southern Schools Book Award was announced at the Presentation Evening which this year was held on the 19th January in the theatre at Roedean School. After reading, reviewing and voting for their favourite titles over three hundred students eagerly awaited the news of the winner.

The authors spoke about their writing and read a brief extract from their shortlisted title. This was followed by a short question and answer session with Nicky directing students’ questions to each of the authors.

presentation_eve_06_2Benefactors of the award MicroLibrarian and HSBC presented student representatives with book tokens and finally, after Nicky’s exciting build-up, the Highly Commended and Winning authors were announced. Raven’s Gate by Anthony Horowitz was awarded Highly Commended and the popular winner was Michelle Paver with Wolf Brother. Loud cheers went up from the auditorium!

Anthony Horowitz had sent a letter of thanks and acceptance which was read out by Nicky, and Michelle happily responded to the announcement of her win.

Excited students then made their way to purchase books from the Bags of Books stand and to meet, speak and have their books signed by the authors.

Once again this year this there was a wonderful buzz in the air as enthusiastic young readers celebrated the culmination of weeks of reading by meeting the people behind the books.

On behalf of all the participants a tremendous vote of thanks is offered to Roedean School for making its theatre available to the Southern Schools Book Award 2006.

Thank you to MicroLibrarian for their kind donation and to HSBC for the sum of £7,724 towards the 2007 SSBA.
